Feedmarker reloaded

Feedmarker has been rewritten in Ruby on Rails. It’s basically the same application, although I’ve stripped out some stuff people weren’t using (maps, groups, etc.).

Feedmarker is now open-source. You can download the source here.

There are sure to be some bugs, as this is fairly new and untested code, so please feel free to e-mail me or leave a message on the forum.

I plan on setting up an SVN repository and writing some documentation soon, so stay tuned.

Why did this happen?
Well, firstly, I expect this new version to run much (MUCH) faster than the old one, which was a gnarly mess of HTML and PHP. The code has been slimmed down and streamlined, and it should improve the overall snappiness of the site.

Second, I’ve learned a ton in the year-and-a-half I’ve worked on Feedmarker, going from an PHP hacker to an enthusiastic Rubyist. All the tools I’ve used, from MySQL to PHP to Ruby on Rails and prototpye.js, have been open source. If they hadn’t been, I don’t think I’d be where I am. So I figure it can’t hurt to open up my code too. Maybe someone else will learn something with it.
